AP Stat - HW #4 (due Weds, March 2)

Today we went over Chapter 25 - paired t-tests and intervals.  These are special procedures for inference to compare means of two groups that are NOT independent of one another.  We also took a short quiz over Chapter 23 (one sample t-procedures).

Here are both the notes from class (if the ppt doesn't work, then try the PDF version) and the homework assignment due on Wednesday:

Coming up in the next week:
  • Group Quiz through Chapter 25: This Friday (March 4)
  • Major Test through Chapter 25: Tuesday, March 8
Don't forget to sign up for the math relay (March 9), worth 5 bonus points on the test!

Precalculus - Chapter 4 Test Review

The first major test of the 5th six weeks is coming up in less than a week~

As it says on the review, please do problems 1-5 without using a calculator.

AP Stat - HW #3 (due Monday, Feb. 28)

Today we went through chapter 24 (inference with 2-sample means).  If you are doing the reading on your own, be advised that we are NOT using pooled procedures for means, so skip that part from the reading.

Homework is:

Today, we went over chapter 23: t-distributions with 1 sample means. If you missed class, here are the notes:

Homework, due on Thursday:

  • Pg. 541 #2, 3, 6, 7, 11, 13, 22, 31, 34

AP Stat - HW #1 (5th Six Weeks, due Tuesday, Feb. 22)

A couple of items...
  • Both sides of this worksheet given out after the test in class: 2009B #1 and #4.pdf
  • Go back to Chapter 18, and work #25, parts (c) and (d).  We are about to get into inference with means, so work this problem that deals with sampling distributions of means.
  • READ pp 520-523 (the first 4 pages of Chapter 23)

Be advised that we are moving quickly this next week, so if you plan on missing class, try to get a classmate to take good notes for you (or read the book?).  By the end of next week, we will be through Chapter 24.

Precal - HW for 4.2 (assigned Th/F)

Here is the new assignment that was promised:

  • pg 349, #5,8,9,12,14,16,20,22,26,27,34,36,39,42,43,45,56,62,67

Do NOT do the assignment that was previously listed for Wednesday or Friday of this week on the calendar.

AP Stat - HW #15 (TEST REVIEW, due Thursday, 2/17)

First off, here are the problems, but finish reading BEFORE you work them:

  • p.508(5), p.513 (5,27,29,30,31)
Instructions:
First, describe the type of problem for each of these six problems.

Then, choose at least 3 (a.k.a., 3 or more) of the problems to do completely.  Notice that all but one of the questions has answers by BOB. You must be more complete than BOB, but he can help you know if you are heading in the right direction.

AP Stat - Bonus Project (due this Friday, 4:10 P.M.)

The following is the description for a bonus project that is worth 5 points added to your test grade.

  • due no later than 4:10 P.M. Friday* - no excuses.
Yes, there is an *asterisk next to the "Friday", talk to me about that in case you miss class
  • must be typed
  • must include thoughtful analysis for each question
  • the article must come from a newspaper or magazine (if you find something fascinating from another source, you must receive prior permission from me before you use it)

Be advised that sources will be checked with the other AP Statistics classes on campus, and any bonus projects that look suspiciously like another will be dealt with appropriate (i.e., tossed out for no credit, no questions, no excuses).

Bonus Points Project SW4.pdf

AP Stat - HW #14 (due Tuesday, Feb. 15)

Next week: Quiz on Tuesday, Test on Friday!

AP Stat - HW #13 (due Friday, Feb. 11)

Today we went over 2-proportion z-intervals (confidence intervals with 2 proportions).

  • Ch. 21, #14, 16, 18
  • Ch. 22, #1a, 3, 4, 5 (if you missed class, follow the example on p. 498-499)

The big group quiz is coming up next Tuesday, and the big test next Thursday (both will cover chapters 19-22).

Precalculus - Chapter 3 Review

The test for Chapter 3 is coming up on Friday/Monday~

Full solutions are available in class on the side board (these will NOT be posted online).

AP Stat - HW #12 (due Weds., Feb 9)

Today's class was over type I and type II errors, and finding power (the probability of correctly rejecting a false null hypothesis).

  • Ch. 21, #8, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19

AP Stat - HW #11 (due Monday, Feb. 7)

While I realize that we didn't get into the next section of notes, these problems should still be very doable~

  • Read from p. 476 ("How to Think About P-values") to the middle of p. 479 ("What Not to Say About Significance")
  • Ch 21, #3, 4, 5, 9 (for #3-5, first state the Ho and Ha, then try to answer the questions)
  • Ch 20, #26

AP Stat - FYI, for class today (Thursday, Feb. 3)~

Due to the shortened class schedule resulting from the late start (yay cold weather!), we will NOT be going much into the Chapter 21 notes as I had promised on Tuesday.

We WILL, however, still take the quiz over Chapter 20 today.

Chapter 21 will be there for our taking in class on Monday.  Check back for possible HW assignment later this afternoon~

AP Stat - HW #10 (due Thursday, Feb. 3)

Today we wrapped up chapter 20 (hypothesis testing with proportions).  Homework due Thursday:

  • Ch 20 #3,5,15b,16,19,24
Expect a quiz over Chapter 20 on Thursday!
