Work must be in complete sentences and in context.  Do what you need to prepare for your test!!!

Again: "Practice" problems are optional (no credit for those)!!!  Do at least 4 of the 6 for full credit.

    • P. 17, #12 or #20
  2. Experimental vs. Observational Study - Explain your answers
    • Practice: p. 314 #7
    • P. 314, #8 or #10
  3. Experimental Design
    • Practice: P. 317 #39
    • P. 317 #28 or #40

    • Practice: p. 289 #3
    • P. 289 #4 or #7
  5. Categorical Variables - Is there an association (dependence) or no association (independence)
    • Practice: p. 40 #27a-d plus segmented bar graph
    • P. 40 #28a, b, plus segmented bar graph
  6. Describing Distributions (CUSS & BS)

    • p. 132 #11 - construct back-to-back stemplots to compare Friday and Monday
If you have questions, shoot me an e-mail (I'll reply faster to my gmail) or find me at tutorials (before and after-school everyday until the test).

AP Stat - HW #11 (due Monday, 9/27)

Since we took our quiz today, the assignment over the weekend is just these three problems.  We will start chapter 5 in class on Monday~

  • Ch 3, p.39, #24 abcdg* (the graph on part "g" is optional)
  • Ch 4, p.65, #18,37* (refer to p. 57 for an example of a timeplot)

Precal - Test #2 Review

Our last test of the six-weeks is coming up on Tuesday/Wednesday, September 28/29.  The following review is due at the time of your test:

NO LATE REVIEWS ACCEPTED!!!

AP Stat - HW #10 (due Thursday, 9/23)

To note, we are about 1 block behind the schedule set on the syllabus.  Our quiz will be on Thursday (9/23), and the test will be on on Wednesday (9/29).

The HW assignment due on Thursday:

  • p. 65, #5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 36 (use graph paper for any graphs, and make sure your responses are in context)
  • Ogive Worksheet #2, 1ab, 2ab (download here)
  • p. 317, #36 ("Gas Mileage")
Since you are not told what type of experimental design to use, carefully consider the question that the experiment will attempt to answer and what type of design is best. Spend time re-reading the problem and putting yourself into the situation before you start writing.

AP Stat - Experimental Design Process Outline

If you're still having trouble with describing an experimental design from start-to-finish (you wouldn't be alone), the following outline may prove helpful:

AP Stat - HW #9 (Due Tuesday, 9/21)

  • Read/skim p. 50-53 ("Shape, Center, Spread")
  • p. 65, #3, 4 (Please use complete sentences for explanations! <-- this should go without saying from now on!)
  • p. 39, #26* with the following instructions:
    • first, find the conditional distribution of hepatitis status by tattoo status (ex: find the percent of people with no tattoo who have and do not have hepatitis, etc.) and record the percents in a chart
    • next, make a decision concerning the dependence or independence of tattoo status and hepatitis status and explain your reasoning.
    • Using GRAPH PAPER, graph the data in two different ways - one way should be using a segmented bar graph (Example on pg. 29 of your textbook, also instructions are in this powerpoint file, slides 8-11) and the other graph is left up to you.

There are also two worksheets:

AP Stat - HW #8 Worksheet

Here is the worksheet that goes with HW assignment #8, due on Friday, September 17 (the remainder of the assignment is as-is from the calendar):

Precalculus - 6.1 Worksheet (angular/linear velocity)

The following worksheet is part of the homework assigned on Sept. 14-15, along with the book problems on the calendar:

AP Stat - HW #7

Homework assignment #7, due on Wednesday, September 15:

First off, the homework is similar to what is on the syllabus:

  • p.313, #1, 4, 11, 18 (omit parts f, g, h for each question)
  • Read p. 296-309 (this is the addition)

And the announcement about the test...

as many of you could tell, there was no simulation question on the exam.  So... we will be giving one simulation test question in class on Monday (we will have a few minutes to study for it), and it will be worth 14 points of test #1.  This will take about 10 minutes of class.

Please contact me if you have any questions about this~

AP Stat - HW #5 (due Thursday 9/9)

Start with these 3 quick problems over designing studies:
  • Ch 13, #6, 12, 16 (Identify each as observational study, experimental study, or sampling only - skip the other parts)
  • Read p. 276-277 regarding simple random samples!!!
In addition, choose any 3 of the following bulleted items for full credit.  If you decide to do more than 3 and your work is very carefully completed, you can receive extra points for this homework grade.
  • Ch 11, #11, 25 (run 3 trials beginning on line 21 p. A-77)
  • Ch 12, #2, 5 (answer parts a-f)
