Recent updates in pre-ap/tag algebra II

With final exams just around the corner, here's a rundown of the reviews for each class:

Algebra II Regular:

Both classes' final exams include material covered during the 2nd semester only. Evening tutorials will be available in the library from Monday (May 19) - Thursday (May 22) afterschool.

Since AP testing is taking a lot of people out of class, here are the notes/handouts for the 2 sections of chapter 13 that we're covering:

This is one of the more challenging problems on the Chapter 12 review sheet ("the sum/product of 3 consecutive terms" problem).  Click on for the solution:

The last major test of the year (before the final exam) is scheduled for Monday/Tuesday, May 12/13 (A-day first).  It will cover section 11.6 and sections 12.1 - 12.4.  Here is the review sheet:

Please be advised that we are continuing with the B-day-first schedule through all of April and the first week of May.  However, starting with the May 12-13 Chapter 12 test, we are returning to the traditional A-day-first schedule for the rest of the academic year.

update (4/5): there was a typo in the "Extra Practice" worksheet, #10 (the vertices and foci were reversed, and the problem was basically impossible).  This has now been fixed, so please check the link for the correct numbers/answer.

update (4/8): found one more type, in the solution to #9 on the "Extra Practice".  The numerator should read "(y - 7)^2", instead of "(y - 8)^2".

As an update to the previously mentioned Chapter 10 schedule adjustments, here are the actual assignments for the rest of the chapter (so disregard the syllabus, and go by the following schedule):

• April 7/8: Chapter 10 Review Day

We are making some changes to the syllabus for Chapter 10, starting with the first section.

The following is the updated assignment for Wednesday/Thursday, March 26/27 (due the 28/31):

• Skip section 10-1 (page 726).  Don't do it.

• Problems from the book, section 10-2, pages 732-734:
• #20, 21, 23-28 all, 36 and 37

Also of note:

• We will be combining sections 10-3 (ellipses) and 10-4 (hyperbolas) into one class day (March 28/31).
• Section 10-5 (parabolas) will be moved up to April 1/2.
• Section 10-6 (completing the square!) gets moved up to April 3/4.
• April 7/8 will be our Chapter 10 review day (this is the first block of the 6th six weeks).
• The chapter 10 test will be on April 9/10 (Weds/Thurs, B-day first), and will cover sections 10.2 - 10.6.
• Section 10-7 (non-linear systems) will be covered on April 11/14, but will not be tested over.

Assignments for each section will be updated appropriately.
